AMICHIEN® BONDING is the name that Jan Fennell, The Amichien® Dog Listener, has given to 'a way of being' whereby humans apply the rules of the dog world to their pet canines. Our pet dogs are descended from wolves and wild dogs which have evolved to live in packs ruled by strict codes of leadership, hierachy and conduct essential for their survival.
Dogs can only see the world from a CANINE perspective and even though we know them to have intelligence, to respond to human emotion and to act on some words of our languages, they can never think, behave or communicate like humans. Therefore, it makes sense to communicate with them in a way that they understand. Dogs expect us to communicate with them through our behaviour and attitude and they need a CALM, CONSISTENT and CONVINCING pack leader to satisfy their survival instincts. If he believes that no one is fulfilling this role, your dog will take it on himself, a role that he is simply not equipped to do in this human world. The stress of trying to run a modern-day pack (your family, friends, other pets and technological trappings) results in a whole range of distressing, destructive and peculiar behaviour, also anxious, aggressive and unhappy dogs.
To learn to apply the principles of AMICHIEN® BONDING is to learn to recognise the significance of your dog's behaviour and how to demonstrate your leadership in his terms. Once your dog has confidence in your leadership skills and decision making ability he will simply give-up the job. He will relax and start to enjoy the simple, canine pleasures of exercise, play and rest.
The principles of AMICHIEN® BONDING are extremely simple but are NOT A QUICK FIX. This is an ongoing way of living with your dog, of applying dog rules that can potentially improve your relationship and quality of life from the very first moment!
